"White Horse"

OK, so everyone has to take a magical white-horse-in-a-field photo. How could I resist such a classic scene? What I also like about this photo is the bright meandering trail leading into the distance, past that spot of sunlight behind the tree...and such a classic tree.

The Jacob sheep had just been sheared. Jacob sheep with their curling horns and spots look like a cross between holsteins, goats and sheep.

Photographs from Tent Rocks

"Kasha-Katuwe", 11" x 17" archival pigment print, edition of 50, signed. $250
(Each image is printed on demand, so please allow 2 weeks for delivery.)

Tent Rocks (Kasha-Katuwe) is an amazing National Monument near Santa Fe and Albuquerque, New Mexico where volcanic activity and erosion have created other-worldy geologic phenomenon like slot canyons and hoodoos. The sense of nature’s creative power is overwhelming. This is not a place you can just imagine. Its uniqueness is beyond what most of us have ever experienced. Trying to express my perception of being there, with the bright sun reflecting off the bright white sand and orange-and-gray-striped canyons, and the bizarre sense of both intimacy and grand scale is a challenge. Sometimes I come close to capturing it, but I always feel a need to return to try again. These images are from my third visit. This could be a life-long project.

In the computer I exaggerated the sense of hot sun by creating high-key images, but only after hours of balancing value tones to be close to my perception, instead of how the camera perceived it. The effect, I hope, is one of strange, stark beauty.

I send the digital images to a special lab in Seattle that has the exact paper and ink combination I want for these images. The paper, Hahnemuhle Photo Rag Baryta, gives a slight warm reddish-brown tone to the Epson Ultrachrome pigment inks. Independent archival lab tests state that these prints should have a life of 200 years when framed under UV resistant glass or acrylic, as these are. This is almost three times the archival life of traditional darkroom images."

Each image is 11" x 17", signed as an edition of 50, for $250 each.  I will list each one separately to make it easier for you to purchase. Other sizes also available upon request.
